What is a two-way auction?

A two-way auction is an auction where a participant can both bid and offer for the items being auctioned. This is as opposed to seller driven auction such as ebay where users can only bid for offered goods but not where goods are not offered. The two-way auction process enables all market participants to express their opinions with real money, and the auctions effectively establish a fair price where business can be conducted at any given time. Variable dynamic pricing is a key characteristic of all sophisticated global markets such as stock, currency and commodity exchanges.

What is a market?

A meeting place for people for buying and selling.

What is a spot market?

A market in which a commodity is bought or sold for immediate delivery or delivery in the very near future.

What is a spot price?

The market price of a commodity.

What is an individual diamond category?

An individual diamond category includes Certificate, Weight, Colour, Clarity, Make and Fluorescence. [Please note: Make is subdivided by cut, polish, symmetry and DODAQ only accepts very good (VG) or excellent (X).

Within each category the Make is represented by either VG (cut=VG, polish=VG, symmetry=VG), single X (meaning one of cut/polish/symmetry is excellent the others VG - refer to certificate for exact details if desired), XX (meaning two of cut/polish/symmetry are excellent the other VG - refer to certificate for exact details if desired) or XXX (cut=X, polish=X, symmetry=X)

What is an order book?

An order book is where all orders are displayed, both active and inactive.

How do the bids and offers move the price in a market?

The price moves according to when bids and offers are matched. Changing bid prices or offer prices alone will not move the market price, it is only when the two are matched that a price is established.

What is a streaming price?

A live price which is automatically updated.

Is my trading activity published to others?

No. DODAQ is a faceless electronic exchange. No records of your personal trading activity will be published or made available to any third party.

What is the dashboard?

This is the landing page for the DODAQ trading platform. In Market Movers tab you can see the top category gainers and losers of the day overall and in your own markets. The second tab, Quick Portfolio shows you an overview of your diamond holdings.

What is the difference between the quick portfolio on the dashboard and the main portfolio window?

The Quick Portfolio shows a consolidated overview of your diamond holdings, whereas in Portfolio the information is singular and therefore gives a more in depth profile of your diamond holdings.

What does a market grid display?

A market grid displays a numerous markets at once. Within a market grid each market shares the same certificate lab, weight range, make and fluorescence, but colour and clarity is separated. To read the market grid use the legend displayed.

What are the colour codes on the market grid?

Use the legend displayed to read the market grid. Remember, blue always indicates the bid and pink the offer.

What is a buy ticket?

The order ticket in which you input your desired price, quantity and if applicable the weight range.

What does the weight range on a buy ticket allow me to do?

Each market is categorised by a weight range. If however you desire an exact weight or smaller weight range you can do this by using the drop down option for weight range. Remember, narrowing the weight range for a bid creates a specific bid order.

What does the total value on the buy ticket display?

This show the maximum and minimum price you would pay for your bid.

What do the numbers mean under the prices at the bottom of a buy ticket?

At the bottom of a buy ticket the market depth is displayed. This shows the best three bids and offers (if available) within that diamond category. The prices are displayed and the numbers beneath show the quantity being bid or offered. Numbers in brackets indicate the quantity of specific bids for that price.

What does B.A. stand for?

Buy off the Ask. This is a unique DODAQ function enabling a participant to view the diamonds and their specs being offered on the Ask so as to buy them directly.

When I am buying off the ask how do I know which diamonds I am buying?

The diamonds with checked boxes indicate those which you are wanting to buy. If you click on the tick icon above the boxes it will select all of them, double click and it will deselect.

How do I sell diamonds from my order page?

In exactly the same way you normally sell. Input your desired asking price and place it on the market.

Why can I not put on an order when I have enough money in my account?

Check your available funds in the Account window which is displayed on the left hand side of each page. Remember to refresh. If you still can not put on any orders when there is enough credit available then please contact customer support.

What is the advantage of using quick search rather than regular search in the portfolio window?

Speed. If you know what you are looking for just type it in the quick search box.

What info is displayed on the graph of the market?

The graph charts the price movement of that particular category over different defined periods.

What does the deactivate button do?

This deactivates (pulls) your orders. Your orders will remain on your order book but to resubmit them on the market you will need to activate them.

How do I specify which diamonds I want to take delivery of?

Go to the Take Delivery page found in Account on the navigation bar. Select the diamonds you wish to take delivery of by checking the selection box.

How do I specify to which address I would like my diamond/s to be sent to?

Go to Delivery Addresses page found in Account on the navigation bar. Here you can add and edit delivery addresses.

Where can I see what i paid last time I bought a similar diamond?

Using the Orders page select only the filled bids check box. Here you can sort through information on your previous purchases.

What is the minimum purchase/trade size?

There is no minimum purchase or trade size.

You should also consider the minimum vaulting charge when planning your investment.

Monitoring an active order

There are several ways to monitor your order. The main one is explained here.

What happens to your confirmed order?

If your order can be executed in full you will buy a diamond there and then.

For each matched execution you will receive both

  1. interactive modifications to your orders history screen and portfolio.
  2. instant updating in your transaction page of the amount you have traded.

Settlement occurs instantaneously upon deal execution which is possible because DODAQ retains control over the resources of both sides settling a diamond trade.

Because settlement is instantaneous you can sell immediately after buying.

What if I make a mistake?

It can be daunting getting to know a new trading system where it may seem that a wrong click could cost you a fortune. So let's take some of the worry out of it.

The only result of you spending money is buying diamonds at a fair market price.

System protections ensure you can do this safely even while you are unfamiliar with the system.

  • You can only spend money you have in the system. You cannot accidentally overspend your cash balance and be asked to send in more.
  • You cannot accidentally sell diamonds you do not have. The system will not allow you to input the order.
  • You cannot accidentally issue us with instructions to pay the wrong person. We don't accept those instructions because we always pay funds to the original account which sent us funds in the first place.
  • You will never receive a margin request - i.e. a demand for additional money from us to cover the risks in your trading position. No such payment will ever be required, because there is no credit in the DODAQ system.
  • When you do put in an order you will always see a request to confirm. You will have the chance to reject or accept it before it commits you.

Might no one be bidding a fair price for my diamonds when I want to sell?

This could happen. It's unlikely, because traders would usually fill the void by bidding so as to be able to sell at a profit to the next buyers.
